Description
Not to be confused with tropical plumbago, Hardy Blue Plumbago, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, is a cold tolerant flowering perennial which spreads by rhizomes to form an attractive groundcover in the landscape or gardens. Stunning, 5-petaled, electric blue flowers are produced above the foliage during the the summer and all the way to frost! Flowers resemble those of woodland phlox and couldn’t be prettier against the burgundy-red fall foliage.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 6-8 inches tall and spreading to form a patch 18 inches or more wide, Hardy Blue Plumbago is ideal for use as a groundcover in sunny or shady spots. It works especially nice as a border along a path or walkway or as an underplanting for trees such as Japanese maples. Perfect for interplanting with spring bulbs because foliage emerges late as the bulb foliage is dying back
